“High waisted wide leg pants… people actually wear those?” is what I asked my fashion-forward coworker when she told me she loved the trend. The realization hit me that I am truly behind in the fashion department. Skinny jeans are my go-to and I have one nice leather jacket that is my staple. Now that I’m in the working world and in my mid-twenties, it’s officially time to up my wardrobe game.
The same co-worker drug me to a Free People store with her during our lunch break errand running about two months ago. It was the first time I’d stepped foot in one of their stores because I never saw it as my style. Boy was I proven wrong!
I hit their sale rack (this post-grad millennial cannot afford their full-price items) and was surprised at how many pieces I snatched off to take to the fitting room. While I wasn’t sold on all of them, my coworker convinced me that a pair of corduroy high waisted wide leg trouser pants I had tried on were “made for me”. They were priced at a steal, they were different and they were fun. It would have been ridiculous to pass on them just because they weren’t my usual look, so I bought them.
Fast forward to the following week…
I hesitantly wore my new pants to work. I paired then with a simple black fitted sweater and black booties, and got an unbelievable amount of compliments. Who knew I’d end up loving these pants so much?!
Because of their material and dark cedar color, they are going to have to stay solely in my fall wardrobe. But! My co-worker and I ran to a boutique down the street during lunch (do we do anything else?) and I snagged a pair of chambray paper-bag style high waisted wide leg pants that I can’t wait to wear in the spring!
